Muddy Waters - Painting
Muddy Waters - Painting
Muddy Waters. He was something special . I always used to hear people name dropping Muddy and raving bout him, but never really got it till one day i watched a doco on him. It was a Mojo WOrking doco. Man.....
I did this painting around that time years ago when I was trying to re learn how to paint. It captured Muddys look, and i think it worked out well.
This is Acrylic on Canvas.http://www.muddywaters.com/
Bessie Smith Painting
Bessie Smith PaintingPainted in about 2001. Lex hadnt painted for roughly 12-15 yrs. He had recently started up again, trying to rebuild the skills he hadpreviously but had lost. This painting now resides in Philladelphia U.S A . The owner of it has informed me that after his passing he has bequeathed it to the Bessie Smith Museum. Im pretty falttered that this will be where it will end up. Bessie herself had a pretty amazing life. If Robert Johnson is the father of the blues, Bessie is the mother. She had a pretty amazing and interesting life travelling and singing in tents. The sad part when reading about Bessies' life is the world of segregation that surrounded her. Her death could have been avoided had she lived in modern times. She was refused help at a hospital due to her color and sent to the local morgue where they treated colored people. She died due to blood loss received from injuries that she had resulting from her jumping out of a moving car and being caught between the door and a tree. Bessie Had a fear of Cars. Check out her work and learn more about her. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bessie_Smith
Rodriguez ( Sugarman) - Australian Tour 2007
Rodriguez ( Sugarman) - Australian Tour 2007It was crazy doing this show. Sixto is one really gentle humble guy. He moves at his own pace, and his songs resonate strong after all these years. When we got the chance to do this show it was pretty overwhelming. Having been fans of his music for a long time, and well aware of the myths surrounding his possible death and then his rediscovery culminating in a fantastic tour of South Africa that it seemed like it was just an incredible dream that we were going to see him in concert let alone do a poster for him. The pic on the poster is obviously Rodriguez from his ' Coming From Reality' Album. The cool thing about his music are the lyrics and the stories. He has a pretty strong view on the inner city dwellers, especially the poor. So we went for a inner city feel in the poster design with a brownstone building in the background, rough scrawled lyrics on his clothes and some bright eye popping colors making it jump from the pages. After the Show Sixto hung out and signed posters, cds, photos and whatever else people had brought along for him to sign. He made sure everyone got a signature, or met him. He was very cool indeed, and showed a deep apprciation for his fans. Here's hoping he tours again.!!
